Expectations ain't Fate but Faith

"We expect things to happen, instead we must do good. Everything in life is incremental. We have to be patient in life" - a participant's reflection in a values based leadership workshop. How often have we allowed expectations to rule our very being to a point of frustrations, broken relationships and even severe illnesses? We nevertheless more often than not, in today's fast paced reality that we have conditioned our minds towards, we do not stop and calmly reflect on what we are doing to ourselves but just accept it as 'it's just the way it is'. However is it? Does the environment, circumstances and our own deep seated expectations of how things should be but is not or what we should be but we are not, lead us to this forgone sacrificial conclusion of 'no pain, no gain'? Rather if we worked on our very being, giving ourselves a space, expanding on it, then continually finding ways and means to respond to the circumstances that we find ourselves in, always being mindful to do even if it may just be an iota or a drop in the ocean, to do even that little bit of good anyway, being patient and enjoying the goodness that this kind act has brought forth as well as the growth in ourselves, life than becomes an adventure to tackle and live rather than be resigned to. Trust becomes a clear factor that brings about the integrity within, trust that the outcome in time will be favourable, however for today and in each moment to just keep at doing good in whatever way we possibly can and are able to, expanding our own inner abilities and responsiveness and in time our faith will conquer it all.
